Spring is the perfect time for new beginning and to deepen or renew your “green” resolutions. Each time you are about to put something in or on your body, ask yourself the question,
“Is this bringing health, beauty and harmony to my body?” If not, just don’t do it! Going green is about respecting yourself enough not to trash your beautiful body.

1. Remove Toxins: Make sure that ALL your skincare and make-up is absolutely free of any toxic ingredients like preservatives or fragrance. If not STOP using them at least for this 8-day makeover. I cannot state this enough, more and more scientific studies show that these toxic ingredients are not only bad for your health, but they make you age faster by creating free radicals.

Replace meat with avocados beans, lentils, quinoa, brown rice, and baked potatoes. Pair them with big mixed salads. Dare to mix greens and fruits like mangoes, apples, and pears… Top with a few nuts (walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, sunflower seeds) for a boost of omega 3s. Dress with a little lemon juice and virgin olive oil.

6. Choose Organic: This is the most powerful way you say NO to pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics, that all wreak havoc on your hormones with terrible consequences on both your skin and health. Check out the dirty dozen, clean 15 lists. I know organic is more expensive but when you go meat-dairy free your grocery bill becomes cheaper and SO much healthier!

7. Go Outside and Take in Nature:  Spend at least 20 minutes outside today – and for the 7 days to come. Soak in some 'vitamin G' (for green). Mother Nature can be extremely therapeutic and the fresh air will do you, and your skin a world of good.

Relaxing never seems to make it onto the to-do list but today, relaxing is your to-do list!

1. Make time for yourself: If you have kids, arrange for someone to take care of them. Book ½ day with yourself; write it in your agenda so you are sure to not miss the important meeting with yourself.

2. Give yourself a facial: Run a nice hot bath; charge it with a few drops of essential oils. Let the steam from the water open your pores. Exfoliate with the Jojoba beads exfoliant to remove all dead skin cells. Rinse and follow with a thick layer of the Deep Hydration Masque to infuse your skin with revitalizing antioxidants. Let it sit for 10 min, while you soak and rest in your bath. Rinse off masque, and with a loofah exfoliate your entire body. If you are courageous finish with a quick cold water shower.

3. Pamper yourself: Get a massage, stay in bed all morning or do anything that makes you feel like a queen, you are one!

4. Practice deep breathing and do it at least twice a day for the next 7 days, preferably at around the same time each day. This will help establish a breathing routine that calms you, refocuses your energy, and brings very soothing oxygen to stressed skin. Here is one I like: Inhale and exhale through your nose, mentally counting "in-two-three, and then "pause-two-three” and then “out-two-three," During the pause, don't breathe in or out; just rest comfortably. Do this 5 times. Over time, increase the count to four ("in-two-three-four, out-two-three-four"), then to five, until you reach a number that's comfortable to you.

5. Have Sex! Yep, sex (with a partner or on your own) can help relax you and get your skin glowing again.

Stay green of course!

You are already Greener since day one. Remember that healthy glowing skin comes from proper skin care paired with an antioxidants rich diet. Plants are the only real source of antioxidant, with fish that is high in vitamin E. Plant foods also have a very low amount of calories compared to animal food. So, if you want to maintain a healthy weight, plant-based food is also a better choice.

1. Replace your coffee with green tea and sip all day long.

2. Drop ALL skin destroyers: Processed foods, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, soda (diet and regular), processed meats and cheeses, refined flour, sugar, saturated fats, fried food, cigarette smoking.

3. Amp your intake of vitamin A, C, E rich food; checklist below.

4. Quench your thirst: Make sure you drink enough water. The rule is ½ your weight in oz. If you weigh 120lbs, you need to drink 60 oz. If you have a hard time with this add slices of lime, lemon, cucumber or mint in your water. Skin will wrinkle faster without adequate moisture. Just like the plant, when skin loses moisture, it gets dry. Dry skin shows wrinkles more and causes skin to sag faster than it would normally. Skin will plump up nicely when the skin cells are hydrated.

Keep going green and relaxing!

 
1. Include at least 30 minutes of physical activity today, and schedule time for more active half hours over the next few days. Choose something you enjoy. There's no point in being miserable. The goal is to raise your heartbeat. Whether it's turning on some music and dancing, going for a power walk/run with your dog, taking a bike ride - there are plenty of options for doing your body good. Exercise during the day helps you fall asleep at night and improves the quality of your beauty sleep. Just another one of the health benefits of physical activity.

2. Treat Yourself to Something Special! Reward yourself with an hour today or tomorrow (1 full hour) to do anything you'd like. Get a nice hair cut/color, go shopping, have a mani/pedi or simply veg in front of the TV!

Remember to go green, relax and eat well!

Laughter is the best medicine and is so good for your looks. Happy vibes will do more for your looks; now that’s a facelift! We are so caught up in busy schedules and responsibilities, we often forget that fun should be part of our day.

1. Connect with a friend: Today schedule time to spend an evening of fun time with people who are meaningful in your life -- who make you laugh or inspire you. Pick up the phone and call someone you love and who loves you. Arrange for sharing a tea or maybe your 20 minutes in nature. Try the co-counseling routine: If you are going to be 20 min together, each one gets 10 min to talk while the other one is only listening - Not offering advice or sharing their personal life experience. This is all about expressing for one and listening for the other one. Then switch. You will be amazed at the result. Here are some subjects ‘What do you love about yourself?’ ‘What are you truly passionate about?’ ‘What makes you happy?’

At any time during the day when stress hits, recall your gratefulness and let it melt away the adverse effects of bad energy.

Get More Beauty Sleep: If you don't have any early obligations today, sleep in as long as you like. If you have to get up early, take a nap later in the afternoon. The ideal time for a nap is about 8 hours after you get up -- that's when your body temperature naturally takes a little dip (a sleep inducer); it's part of your normal biological rhythm. So give in, and experience the beauty benefits of a little power nap.

How to Power Nap:
1. Take off your shoes, and get comfy on a reclining chair, couch, or bed. Close the blinds, or turn away from any direct sunlight.
2. Set an alarm for 30 minutes. That gives you 10 to fall asleep and 20 for your actual nap.
3. Avoid napping after 3 p.m., it can disrupt your nighttime sleep.

Continue focusing on inner beauty, greening your life, having fun, moving your body, eating well and relaxing!

After over six months of maintenance and optimization, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar is back in the water and preparing for its 2013 solar campaign! The recent improvements will expand and diversify the ship's applications, and enable it to navigate to the northernmost part of the Atlantic for the first time. A scientific expedition along the Gulf Stream, a waste collection campaign in European waters, and even educational events, this is a brand new crew that will be leading the largest solar vessel ever built on its 2013 campaign, which will be officially launched on March 18 in Monaco.

The success of the first trip around the world powered exclusively by solar energy has demonstrated the maturity of the prototype's photovoltaic technology. Those two years of solar navigation were instructive for PlanetSolar and led to an initial assessment of the vessel's performance. This assessment indicated where optimizations were needed to make the ship more efficient and maneuverable. These improvements will expand and diversify the ship's applications and uses; notably, enabling it to navigate to the northernmost part of the Atlantic, near the Artic, for the first time.

Six months of dry-docking were necessary for PlanetSolar to carry out the ship's maintenance work and optimizations, such as refurbishing the cabins, creating a sundeck on the bridge, reinforcing the mooring cleats, increasing water tank capacity, and improving the rudder. The most substantial optimizations were made to the propulsion system—the surface propellers were replaced by a completely immerged system, and more powerful electric motors were installed on the bow thrusters. Now that this maintenance is complete, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar is back in the water to begin a navigation phase test that will reevaluate its performance, and primarily its speed—a key element in the successful completion of its 2013 campaign.

The MS Tûranor PlanetSolar will officially begin its 2013 campaign on March 18 in the Principality of Monaco. It will then leave for the Atlantic, where it will attempt to break its own world record speed for a transatlantic crossing that is powered only by solar energy (26 days in 2010).

From May, in collaboration with the University of Geneva, the ship will become a platform for scientific research in the framework of the “PlanetSolar DeepWater”expedition. Led by Professor Martin Beniston, climatologist and co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, an onboard scientific team will collect new data along the Gulf Stream. The ship will follow the ocean current from Florida to the Far North and will put into port in Miami, New York, Boston, St. John's, Reykjavik, Bergen, Oslo, and Paris.

In the summer, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar will be called upon to clean up floating waste in European waters. In collaboration with the Waste Free Oceans Foundation, the ship will be equipped with an ingenious trawling net that can collect up to 8 tons of marine pollution. In the fall, the catamaran will continue its solar energy promotion campaign and sail to the cities of Izmir and Istanbul. These stopovers will be unique opportunities to meet with local populations and promote photovoltaic energy. Instructive events aimed at young audiences will be organized aboard the ship.

A brand new crew for the 2013 campaign

The crew that successfully led the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar on its first solar-powered trip around the world has left the ship to return to civilian life. The Swiss solar vessel will host a brand new international crew for its new missions. The crew members will be introduced on March 18 in Monaco during the official launch of the campaign.

The MS Tûranor PlanetSolar, built in Kiel, Germany, is a catamaran that runs exclusively on solar energy. After two years of design and construction, PlanetSolar is responsible for many technological advances, notably in the domain of composite material manufacturing and solar energy storage. Tofino Has New, Green Mayor

“As a small village that is the gateway to a globally significant UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, I believe we have an opportunity and an obligation in Tofino to think 'outside the box' on social, environmental and economic issues, from transportation and housing to business diversity and entrepreneurship,” said Ms. Osborne. “I'm excited about working with all members of my community in this new role as Mayor, regardless of party affiliations.”

SIDNEY, BC – Green Party Leader and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands, Elizabeth May, welcomes the news that Josie Osborne was sworn in today as mayor of Tofino, British Columbia.

Ms. Osborne has worked as a fisheries biologist for First Nations communities and as a leader in social enterprise at the Tofino Botanical Gardens Foundation. She has recently been more engaged as a community and business representative, chairing the local destination marketing organization, Tourism Tofino. Josie Osborne is also an active member of the Green Party of Canada.

“I am so pleased that the new Mayor of Tofino, Josie Osborne, is a Green Party member. I know she will, as I have tried to do federally, put constituents first and party last. While party affiliations are not raised in most municipalities, the Green Party is nevertheless pleased and proud that one of our own has become mayor. This is a first in Canada,” said May.

Q&A on Wine And Climate Change - Coppola on Donner

These questions were submitted by reader Sara Coppola to Paige Donner, Founding Editor of the Green Blog Network , Local Food And Wine and Producer-Director of the documentary work-in-progress, Wine And Climate Change:

Q: Sara Coppola: Paige, you're embarking on a new important and insightful project: the “Wine & Climate Change” Documentary; a project that stems from your great interest and involvement in environmental causes and your previous research on issues concerning global agricultural security.

When did you first start to get involved with environmental projects and how?

A: Paige Donner: My enthusiasm for protecting the environment stems from having grown up on a Pacific Island and in California, alternatively. My brother and I would spend part of the year with my father in California where we would camp, hike, go on vineyard treks in Napa and Santa Barbara where my grandmother lived...and then with my mother in Guam and Hawai'i where we were raised like earth-bound dolphins - when we weren't SCUBA diving we were surfing or swimming or water-skiing.

Also, I was homeschooled from grades 6-9 so I was able to pursue tailored coursework about the environment and natural landscapes that might not have been available to kids learning from regular school curriculum at that time in the mid-70s.

Then, early on in my career as a journalist, I worked with a morning news producer at KTVU-Oakland. She allowed me to develop and pitch a series of 2-minute segments that we called "Earth News." It never really got off the ground, but it was good training. That was the early 90s. It wasn't until the digital revolution that I was free to report on environmental issues as I wished. So in the 2000s I began writing a column called Greening Hollywood, which married my years spent as an entertainment reporter with my passion for environmental issues.

Q: Sara Coppola: How was the idea of this project born?

A: Paige Donner : I feel I am most naturally expressive as a filmmaker. Since journalism is my professional background and the career I have pursued for 20 years now, a documentary about this compelling subject matter makes perfect sense.

This project in particular is based on the article assignment I did for the International Herald Tribune (the global edition of the N.Y. Times) which published in November 2011. I pitched an article about this subject to my assigning editor at IHT and he helped me to refine the angle and the approach. This documentary builds upon that one-page article and allows greater in-depth analyses and examination of Wine And Climate Change as well as allowing for the incorporation of up-to-date and newly released climate science reports.

Q: Sara Coppola: How do you think this documentary will contribute to the vineyards´ environmental problems due to climate change?

A: Paige Donner: In fact I feel this documentary will contribute to vineyards' coping successfully with challenges that predicted climate change and climate variability in this century are forecasted to manifest.

When we are caught by surprise or unawares, that's when the most damage can take place. When we are prepared, we can adapt beforehand and put in place certain measures to ward off significant impacts.

An example would be Hurricane Sandy (that recently hit NY and the U.S. East Coast). The greater advance warning, the more safety measures can be taken to preserve and protect.

Another example is the case of Phylloxera, a disease that ravaged Europe's vineyards at the beginning of the last century. Had the vineyard owners and managers been forewarned before this disease was imported from America, they may well have been able to take measures to protect against the devastation of their vineyards.

We may have some justification in drawing similar parallels now, though climate change is not a disease but rather a disruption and departure from known climate patterns.

It's also crucial to point out that one of the main points made by some climate scientists is that if and when vineyards are unalterably changed due to climate fluctuation, our other agricultural crops will also be severely impacted. So this documentary is as much about the future of wine vis a vis climate change as it is about the future of global food security.

Q: Sara Coppola: What tangible and realistic steps do you think the global community could undertake to slow down climate change?

A: Paige Donner: That is a huge question. And it's one I will be tackling in the documentary. It is one of the questions I will be putting to some of the world's leading climate scientists and environmental leaders. Of course, one of the studies I will be examining more closely in the documentary is the newly released report titled, Too Late For 2ºC, which more or less states that we are already past the point of no return.

Q: Sara Coppola: Are you carful to (sic) environmental issues in your daily life (e.g. grocery, shopping etc.)? What suggestions can you give to people willing to pursue more conscious shopping habit? (sic)

A: Paige Donner: I've made personal commitments to live a sustainable life all around, practiced on a daily basis. I keep my personal consumption within reason. I use alternative energy sources whenever available. I'm also a fan of electric vehicles. I'm an advocate of local food production/consumption. As for shopping, I personally appreciate the creativity displayed in upcycled fashion and accessories. A Cradle 2 Cradle approach to design and manufacture is something that resonates with me.

Some of the freshest scents coming from Paris, France these days are from an artisan "parfumeur" dedicated not just to the clean purity of scents, but also to the clean purity of a perfume's composition. The woman behind the brand is Huong Mangin, a French woman whose family originated from Vietnam. Her perfumes are created in Grasse, the historic "perfume capital" of France, and, arguably, the world.

During the recent Rives de la Beaute' held in Paris this Autumn, much discussion surrounded the topic of "Scent as Art." To elaborate, the discussion's central point is about creating museums of scent, whereby a perfume can be held up, enshrined and admired as the piece of art, and historical reference point, that it is.

Francaises recalled her childhood scent-memories from Vietnam - the delicate florals, the fresh herbs and spices, the raw fragrances of her childhood and her ancestral home. When she began working with the iconic 5th generation family house of Mane, based in Grasse, in the south of France, these were some of the perfume essences she put forward in her design wishes.
Master perfumers Christian Vermorel, Céline Ripert and Frédérique Terranova took their cues from Madame Mangin and went to work creating the sublime perfumes that are L'Essence des Notes. The scents they worked with in their creations are from the Citrus/Fruity, Fougere, Chypree, Floral, Wood and Oriental/Amber families. Each perfume has a top note, a heart note and an end note. The top note and the end note are always different, - the true mark of a quality perfume.

Hollande Sets Ambitious CO2 Emissions Reductions Goals For France And EU

Paris - Francois Hollande, France's President, last Friday (Sept. 14, 2012), announced that under his watch, environmental issues will be placed at the top of the national, and even international, political agenda. His announcement was issued during La Conférence Environnementale, an annual environmental conference held in Paris.

His most ambitious statement issued is his recommendation to cut CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and 60% by 2040 at the European Union level. Current EU targets are 20% reduction of 1990 levels by 2020.

Hollande stated that he would like to see more global dialogue on environmental issues, citing the lack of a renewed agreement on climate goals reached internationally so far makes this an urgent and important matter. The Kyoto Protocol expires at the end of this year so climate talks are expected to once again take priority at the upcoming November Doha COP 18 conference. According to the Paris-based International Energy Agency, CO2 emissions rose by 3.2% last year to 31.6 billion tons, spurred by increases from China.

More initiatives he announced/ launched:

New tenders for solar and offshore wind power by end of 2012.
Closing of Fessenheim's Nuclear Power Plant by end of 2016.
Rejected applications for shale gas exploration.
Cut France's nuclear power from 75% to 50% by 2025.

Celebrities who have been in the business for some time are now opting to use their influence to create environmental programs and business solutions. Here is a sampling of some of the world’s most famous people today, working to create a better world for tomorrow through business:

1. Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner was the perfect personal defender in Bodyguard, and now he is defending the planet as well. His environmental protection business Ocean Therapy Solutions has spent over fifteen years designing a new centrifuge that can clean up about 2,000 barrels of oil out of seawater every day. After the BP oil spill, the company used Ocean Therapy Solutions to clean much of the coastal spill.

2. Cameron Diaz

While Cameron may be known for her goofy roles in some of the most beloved modern

preservation. She has recently launched a new show on MTV, Trippin, where she heads around the world to experience first-hand some of the most dire environmental needs.

3. Rachael McAdams

Best known for her roles in The Notebook and Mean Girls Rachel McAdams is one of the top talents in young Hollywood. She is also an avid environmentalist who prefers to unplug, ride her bike, and recycle everything possible. She has also started her own site Green is Sexy to show others how to do the same.

4. Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson is not only a legendary country singer, he has also always had a fondness for the open road. It’s no surprise that he co-founded a biodiesel fuel company that produces a soybean and vegetable fuel named Bio Willie in an effort to reduce the United States’ dependence of foreign oil and minimize the threat to the environment. The fuel is currently sold by Earth Biodiesel Inc.

5. Daryl Hannah

Daryl Hannah is a beauty icon and talented actress who is also very environmentally active. She owns her own online store Love Life Goods where she sells sustainable, recycled and organic lifestyle products. From beauty treats, to clothing, to composters, this site covers it.

6. Ed Begley, Jr.

Ed Begley, Jr. has been a longtime A-list celeb and many people know he has also been a longtime proponent of environmentally friendly lifestyles. Once he rejected a limo to drive him to the Academy Awards, preferring to show up right on time on his bicycle. He currently owns a company that manufactures and sells a line of green cleaning products, Begley’s Best. As an exhibitor at this year’s TechConnect Summit, Pixelligent Technologies has found that participating in this annual event has its payoffs. Craig Bandes, CEO of Pixelligent and a presenter at TechConnect Ventures for multiple years, says that, “We started looking for conferences that were focusing on nanotechnology about 3 years ago and TechConnect was the largest gathering of potential partners and vendors that we could find in North America. We have presented in the Innovation Showcase for the past 2 years and will present again this year. TechConnect has proven to be our most productive conference of the year.”

Not just the private sector but the public sector as well stands to gain through strategic attendance and participation at TechConnect Summits, this year’s held in the San Francisco Bay Area, a geographic zone that has proven attractive in particular to nanotechnology start-ups and companies. Dina Lozofsky, who also serves on the TehcConnect Advisory Committee in addition to her role as Sr. Licensing Officer at UC Santa Barbara, says that, “At Tech Connect I have made many good contacts at the event that have proven to be valuable for pursuing my organization's goals. Tech Connect has also given us good opportunities to showcase our technologies available for licensing and our startups the opportunity to present to potential partners and investors.”

Can participants look for tangible outcomes from attending or exhibiting at Cleantech Connect Summits? I posed this question to Didier Leconte, President and General Manager at MSBi Valorisation and formerly with Univalor. His response bears testimony to several concrete outcomes from his experiences: “I met several representatives from companies during my first TechConnect Summit (and then after) and ultimately signed a commercialization agreement with one, in addition to developing long lasting relationships.” He added that he thinks “the location this year represents a great opportunity to network in the Bay area.”

Can exposure to a large array of participating companies at a summit like TechConnect World be potentially beneficial? Yes and no seems to be the answers, with an emphasis on potential. For example, University of Minnesota’s Leza Besemann, a Technology Strategy Manager and also on the TechConnect Advisory Committee, says that, “TechConnect provides a great venue to not only promote our available technologies but also to get market feedback and input on the commercial viability of these technologies.” And on the subject of leveraging networking opportunities presented by Summit participation, she says, “We obtained contacts at large companies such as Dow, Honda and Kodak that were potential licensees for our technologies.” She added that they are looking forward to the Innovation Summit, “which is yet another opportunity to increase awareness of the University of Minnesota and our technologies.”

Boris Kobrin, CEO and Co-Founder of Rolith, Inc. had a different take-away: “We participated in TechConnect in 2011. Except a few new contacts no positive outcomes we have seen so far. Even personal meetings requested by 2 corporate partners (Dow and Lockheed) were not useful at all.” However, Rolith will be participating again at this year’s summit and Kobrin says that some of the highlights that keep him coming back are the exposure to the other participating companies that “positively impact our fundraising and partnership-building activities,” and the requests for meetings from two corporate partners - Applied Materials and SK Innovation.

10-Week Women’s Earthbag Dome Building Apprenticeship in Canada

Lillooet, British Columbia, July 28-October 6, 2012

Kleiwerks International’s Women of the Americas Sustainability Initiative (WASI) is hosting a 10-week, hands-on natural building apprenticeship that brings together a group of women apprentices with an experienced team of earthbag builders and native St’at’imc community members. Their project is to construct a Healing & Cultural Arts Centre near Lillooet, BC. This training immersion provides participants with the opportunity to learn construction while building a dome from start to finish, develop leadership skills through facilitating local groups, work side-by-side with a community that is creating culturally appropriate local solutions, and document the story to share with wider audiences.

Ideal participants are women who have follow-up projects, intend to share what they learn, want to work in the natural building trades and be part of the growing natural building movement. “This apprenticeship is a unique opportunity for participants to delve into earthbag construction while building the envisioned creative cultural community commons with the people of T’it’qet and Lillooet who are engaged in proactively creating a vibrant future by combining traditional St’at’imc culture and values with refined sustainable and ecological solutions,” says Susannah Tedesco, local Program Coordinator.

Today’s building industry uses half of our planet’s resources, yet healthy, time-tested, affordable and soulful construction alternatives exist. These alternatives are based on reclaiming and refining the use of local and recycled materials. Coupled with indigenous knowledge and Permaculture design systems, natural building plays a profound role in creating a way of life that is good for people and the planet.

Instructors Fox McBride and Chloe Wolsey are teaming up for the first time, combining their extensive and global earthbag dome construction backgrounds. In time for Earth Day 2012, Sony Pictures RELEASES FIRST-EVER INDUSTRY PRODUCTION USING COMPLETELY ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING

Culver City, CA (April 19, 2012) - As an industry leader in environmental innovation, Sony Pictures has long experimented with energy-efficient light sources and technologies for use in its productions. But for the Screen Gems feature Think Like a Man, Sony Pictures took its efforts a step further and reached an industry first by using 100 percent energy-efficient (LED) lighting sources on the production.

“Sony Pictures is committed to making great content with a smaller and smaller energy footprint, and Think Like A Man is a great example of Screen Gems’ continuing tradition of actively reducing the impact and waste of a major feature film production,” says Gary Martin, President, Production Administration, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Conventional lighting for a motion picture requires a significant amount of energy to run and generates a lot of heat on set. This, in turn, must be cooled using air conditioning, requiring additional control equipment. Compared to a conventional incandescent bulb, however, LED lighting can generate over four times the amount of light with the same amount of energy (over four times the lumens per watt), and is also able to maneuver into tighter spaces and be transported more efficiently.

“Lighting is a crucial component in the visual art of filmmaking and brings to life the emotions of a story. LED and other energy-efficient types of lighting, when designed well, can be more efficient, easier to set up, versatile and longer lasting while still providing the visual aesthetic necessary for film production,” says Glenn Gainor, Senior Vice President, Physical Production, Screen Gems.

“Although not perfect, energy-efficient lighting is making great strides. We were excited to incorporate this industry-first in lighting into our production, and look forward to continuing to work with manufacturers to test and improve the technology,” says Mason McConnell, Executive Director of Set Lighting for Sony Pictures.

In addition to many other efforts, Think Like a Man further greened the filming by shooting the entire production in locations near the studio lot, cutting both transportation requirements as well as the need to construct sets. It also used many environmentally-friendly products and processes in the daily administration of the film.

Birch Tree Trio Slimming Therapy

To celebrate the imminent arrival of beach season (in the Northern Hemisphere anyway), Weleda, the beauty company that has always been organic - since 1921! - has launched three new products on the market that, when used together as recommended, work to aid the slimming process.

These Birch Tree based products are to be used in tandem with a healthy exercise regime. Celebrity personal fitness coach Julie Ferrez (clients include French First Lady Carla Bruni and French President Nicolas Sarkozy) recommends a super-effective and not-very-time-consuming training circuit that you can do at home with a balance ball on your floor.

Ferrez, recently dressed all in Victoria's Secrets Pink workout wear ("I only wear U.S. clothes," confessed this adorable and Top French fitness trainer) led a group of assembled journalists interested in getting back in shape before bikini beachwear season strikes again.

First exercise: Start by sitting on the balance ball. (Easy enough, eh?!) Then as you walk your legs forward, the ball will sit on your lower back to mid-back. Your legs are now supporting your lower body. From this position, do as many crunches as you can (watch to not lift your chin too high!). Do at least ten. If you can do 30 or more until your muscles fatigue, that's going to give you the best results the fastest. Do several reps of this.

Second exercise: Stand with the ball between your legs. Squat low enough so that your derriere brushes the ball. Stand up. Repeat. Be sure to keep your posture straight so that you don't put pressure on your lower back, but on your glutes and your thighs. If you do "fall" and land on the (soft) ball, no problem. The muscles that you exercise regaining your balance yield an effective workout, too.

Have fun! Do as many reps as you can. This workout can be done in about 15-20 minutes, either morning, midday or evening.

Now for the Birch Tree Slimming Trio from Weleda...

Ferrez stands by Weleda's claims that when used together and in the context of a healthy exercise and diet regime, these will help to eliminate toxins, firm skin and rid body of cellulite and what the French call "orange peel skin."

1. Birch Tree Juice - mix 3 Tablespoons of the juice in a 1.5 liter bottle of water and consume this every day. The Birch Tree Juice helps to eliminate toxins and aids with digestion and purification of the liver.

2. Birch Tree Exfoliating Cream: Use 1 - 2 times per week. This exfoliating cream - made with a base of organic sesame oil, coconut oil, beeswax, apricot kernel oil and more good and organic things - is to be used in the shower to smooth and stimulate the skin and also circulation.

3. Birch Tree Massage Oil: Here is where some self-pampering comes in. After you bathe, apply this oil with deep self-massage (unless, of course, you have a personal masseuse!) by working the oil into the skin. In problem areas (thighs, stomach, underarms) methodically knead the skin, above the muscle, so that the oil deeply penetrates and can aid in circulation and elimination of fat cells.

Ferrez and Weleda swear that with proper and continued use, you will see a reduction in cellulite over the span of weeks.
